Foundation Stage
Over Foundation Stage, in PE, the children will:
- Practice the key skills of agility, balance and coordination, individually and with others.
- Engage in competitive (against others) and co-operative physical activities.
By the end of FS a child who is attaining typically will be able to:
- Show good control and co-ordination in large and small movements.
- Move confidently in a range of ways, safely negotiating space with good balance.
- Travel using different speeds and changing directions with ease.
- Develop fine motor skills so they can handle equipment and tools effectively.
By the end of KS1 a child attaining typically will be able to understand and use the following vocabulary:
direction – roll – run – speed – partner – catch – hop – balance – healthy – movement – healthy – throw – jump
Key Stage One
Over Key Stage One (KS1), in PE, the children will:
- Extend their agility, balance and coordination, individually and with others.
- Engage in competitive (both against self and against others) and co-operative physical activities.
By the end of KS1 a child who is attaining typically will be able to:
- Master basic movements including running, jumping, throwing and catching.
- Begin to apply balance, agility and co-ordination to a range of activities.
- Participate in team games, developing simple tactics for attacking and defending.
- Perform dances using simple movement patterns.
By the end of KS1 a child attaining typically will be able to understand and use the following vocabulary:
attack – agility – co-ordination – tactics – run – catch – accuracy – balance – defend – participation – throw – jump

Class 3 Sports Day
Last Friday, we enjoyed some fun in the sun during our annual Sports Day. The children had a fantastic time and loved taking part in every activity. We even had some mums and dads join in the races. A great day was had by all!
Sports Day fun in the sun!
Class 2 had a fantastic time at this year’s Sports Day! With the sun shining, they enjoyed taking part in a variety of fun activities including: welly wanging, the sack race and the Jack and Jill Race. Well done, Class 2!

Sport, sport and more sport!
Class 2 had an amazing day at the English Institute of Sport! Everyone took part in a range of exciting activities, including the long jump, high jump and sack race. It was fantastic to see so much enthusiasm, teamwork and effort. Well done, Class 2!
KS1 Ball Skills Festival
Some of our KS1 children visited the local High School to take part in a Ball Skills Festival. They had the opportunity to develop their throwing, catching, dribbling and kicking skills whilst taking part in lots of mini games.
Gold Sports Mark 2024

Y1 Cricket Festival
The children in Y1 visited the local cricket ground to take park in a Cricket Festival. They took part in lots of ball skills activities and finished the trip by having a picnic in the sun.
Balance Bikes Festival
The Nursery and Reception children were invited down to Stocksbridge High School to take part in a balance bikes festival this term. The children got to take part in lots of fun activities and used there new skills to whizz around the final obstacle course.
KS1 visit our local Leisure Centre for sports activities
As part of our Healthy Me theme, the children in Year 1 and Year 2 visited Stocksbridge Leisure Centre to take part in different physical activities. The children had a wonderful time exercising and learning how their body feels when they are active .
Year Two visit the English Institute of Sport.
We took part in a city-wide sports day event at the English Institute of Sport. Everyone gave it their all and we had a wonderful, if tiring, day.
