Notes about meals in school
We are a Food for Life Silver rated school. The Food for Life Schools Award is a framework for schools to teach children about food and where it comes from. Being a silver rated school means that our children learn to cook, grow and eat fresh, healthy food that’s good for them and the planet. We also work with our catering partners, Taylor Shaw, to ensure that the food we serve in school is fresh, health, good quality and meets our children’s needs. An example of the meals available in school is attached for information.
Universal Infant Free School Meals (UIFSM)
All children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 receive a free meal in school under the Government’s universal infant free school meals scheme (UIFSM). Children in our Nursery pay for meals in school, unless they are eligible for income based free school meals.
Income Based Free School Meals (FSM)
Some families may also be entitled to income based free school meals (FSM). Children in receipt of income-based FSMs receive meals and milk in school for free for the duration of their eligibility. They may also be eligible to receive other support, such as food vouchers during the school holidays or free places for school holiday activities. Our school also receives additional funding, which is linked to the number of income-based FSM children who attend.
More information about free school meals is available on Sheffield Council’s website here: Free school meals | Sheffield City Council
Milk in school
All children receive free milk in school up to the age of 5 years old. Children in receipt of income-based FSMs continue to receive free milk in school after the age of 5 years old. Parents & carers of children over 5 years old who are not in receipt of income-based FSMs pay for their child to continue to receive milk in school.
We write to all parents & carers at the end of each term to ask them to order milk in school for their child during the next half term. The full cost to receive milk in school for each half term has to be paid at the start of the half term. Payments are made via our payment portal ParentPay.
Snacks
The School Fruit and Vegetable Scheme provides free healthy snacks for all children in school. Children do not need to bring snacks from home.
